Australia Day 7 Fingal Bay and the Koalas

Yesterday afternoon the ferry took me over to Tea Gardens, where I rode my bike over to Hawksnest to see the most gorgeous beaches yet. Coming back, we were joined by 3 dolphins who were racing the boat and breeched (is that right?) frequently right at the bow. Michael's wonderful parents, Jeanette and David, treated me at wonderful Italian restaurant and then offered to drive me to the Koala Habitat today (via some spectacular bay views) - which allowed us to view one koala in the wild and then we went to where they were enclosed and much easier to see. The wallaby mom and her joey were probably the cutest things I've ever seen. Feeding the kangaroos and camels was also fun! Before the animal tours, I took a magnificent walk around Fingal Bay where I was surrounded by water and amazing views. Tonight is a hotel near the Sydney airport for an early morning flight up to the Great Barrier Reef area, starting on Magnetic Island. I need to ditch more clothes and maybe even a suitcase - need to travel light! I look like a pack animal wheeling two suitcases all around!

  2. Ok - now it looks like I can get in. You must have removed the "Australians" filter. Kathryn - these photos are fantastic. It's amazing that you have been able to take your own photogrpaher with you on this trip - your "KCB Downunder - Survival" documentary is going to be a real hit. That scene of you wrestling with the crocodiles will certainly impress the kids. Have a great time on the Reef, and keep the updates coming!

  4. Looks like you're having a blast! Good to see you survived the stinger surfing.

TWO suitcases?? Guess you gotta bat them eyelashes, darlin'. And put on the voice you were born into. I'm sure it works at least as well down under as it does in NYC.

    Love you. Safe flight. xo
